Ok… the basement isn’t new, but the paint job is. What a difference a coat of paint makes. By Thanksgiving the entire Korb house will have a fresh coat of paint (minus a few rooms that are murals but alas…). Here are a couple of pictures of what has been done thus far. Rick of RJL Painting from Burlington is doing the job – great work.

Abby and I took the first day of “Teacher’s Convention” and decided that we would have a better time if we went off to the Windy City. This trip is almost a yearly visit for us. Two places were our destination, the Museum of Science and Industry and the Art Institute of Chicago. While the top of the Sears Tower (Willis Tower… but it will ALWAYS be the Sears Tower to me) was on our list, this was just such a full day.
We hit the MSI at about 10:30 and got to it fast. WHAT A MUSEUM! We loved the place and chased around like chicken’s with our heads cut off. The Muppets were there and that was probably my favorite exhibition. It was a bit on the small scale, not as many Muppets as I figured woud be there, but to see the real Kermit and Bert and Ernie… how much cooler can you get? Abby enjoyed the whole place… what was her favorite? I am not sure.
The Art Institute was fun too, but more importantly, it was FREE after 5! We, along with about a thousand others, found that to be a big draw. No backpacks though… I had to check that. The Renoir’s and Van Gogh’s got a breeze by, but the Seurat and Wood Sunday Afternoon… and American Gothic respectively, got some good eye time. I loved the new Piano addition (no, not a musical exhibition, it’s the architecht’s last name) even thought the galleries are a bit broken up. A lot of opening doors and trying to figure the place out.
Whlie we walked for about 40 minutes looking for the right Pizza place, we finally found it! What a great ending to the day. Midnight came up and we finally got home from the trip. Abby was dead tired but had a great time. Me… I was tired too, but the times like these with her are SO worth it.
